For me the music used in a film is just as important to the plot and the characters one sees on the screen. Music helps pull you into the emotion of the film.
I recently got the opportunity to see an advance screening of one of my favorite books, Bless Me Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. I have been waiting for over 20 years to see this book made into a film. The movie is directed by Carl Franklin and it hits the big screen on February 22nd. It is a must see film! It is so visually beautiful and the music (score by Mark Kilian) is just as stunning. Lessons, Harvest and The Llano adds to the land and nature you see on the film.
So for today's Musica Monday, go to iTunes and check out the soundtrack to Bless Me Ultima but on February 22nd, go to the theater and see the movie. The film is set during War World II and takes place in New Mexico. It tells the story of a relationship of a young boy and a "curandera" named Ultima. I don't think that I can say enough of how beautifully made it is.
Happy Musica Monday!
